Sex has a history, and this is a site about that history.

Human sexual behaviour, beliefs and attitudes about sex, the way that sex has been represented in literature, art and the media—all vary between different societies and cultures, past and present.

Sex and History stems from my own academic research and teaching in this area; it aims to present that research and teaching in ways that are both interesting and educational.

More about the site (and me) can be found here. At present Sex and History is in the early stages of development. New content is currently being added to the Archive page. The intention is eventually to add further pages which organize and present this content in thematic ways.

I hope you find the material on this site useful and enjoyable—feel free to provide feedback on individual articles or on the site in general.
